This is a well-written, entertaining, steamy, romantic suspense novel. It has a likable, generous female protagonist with a sweet teenage son, a caring male protagonist, mystery, intrigue, twists and turns, and a happily ever after ending. I am looking forward to reading Eddie's story with great anticipation.

description

When I was approached by the author to read this book, I jumped on it. I'm always looking for new romantic suspense authors because it's my absolute favorite little genre. Anyway ... you never really know what you're going to get when you read a new (to you) author and this one most definitely did not disappoint.

Right off the bat, there were exciting things happening within the pages of this one. I immediately loved Tori and her son and that fact alone built up a lot of momentum getting into the book. When you love characters that an author has created, you just want to keep reading! Speaking of characters ... I did have a bit of a back and forth thing going with the antagonist of the story. Here's the deal ... the first (approx) half of the book, you don't know ANYTHING about the antagonist. You don't know if they are male or female, you don't know how old they are or what their name is ... like I said, NOTHING. Now that's not a bad thing, but it does make it a little difficult to form that character in your head when you're reading. That being said, if I had the power to change this, would I? Absolutely not. The mystery surrounding the bad dude/dudette really ratchets up the suspense and I found myself loving every second of the mysterious psycho plaguing these pages. But it did throw me off a bit, and it was worth mentioning.

I think that the way that this story came together quickly shot the book up to the top of my favorites list. There are quite a few things going on but the fast paced way in which it was written doesn't leave you feeling weighed down with all of the details that you'll find yourself quickly consuming. There were a couple of things that the characters talked about needing/wanting to do and then you don't really know if that happened or not but it doesn't detract from the story too much.

All in all, I adored this book and I'm excited to see what the next book in the series has to offer because this one was buttoned up pretty tightly! I can't believe how lucky I was to get asked to read this one. Great author, great book and now I'm a lifelong fan.

* I received this novel in exchange for an honest review *

Unhinged is the perfect depiction for the character in this book. Beyond a shadow of a doubt they are...out of their ever lovin' mind.

This story has a bit of everything...crazy, mystery and romance. I rooted for the heroine the whole book...she deserved to get her happily ever after. Tori got a bum deal with her ex, and because of that she is a bit protective and unable to trust. Especially anyone with money. Not only was her ex a bad seed but her parents were not kind people. She never really had a chance. But in turn she is an amazing mom to her teenage son, showing him how to be grateful and work hard for what or who you believe in. Her company UpStart is her brainchild and livelihood but much more it's what she believes in.

Aiden Miller is a lot like what Tori despises. He has no idea what he is up against but it seems he's willing to prove Tori Radnor wrong. And in the process there is mayhem and strong attraction at every turn.

Sharing just a couple of 5-Star raves:

“Well-crafted story, great characters, deplorable villain. Schroeder gives a vivid picture of the villain slowly becoming unhinged that had me on the edge of my seat!” ~Maria K. Alexander, Award-winning Author

“JB Schroeder isn't afraid to explore the darker side of human nature and there are definitely some spine-tingling, creepy scenes in Unhinged. But that's what make this author's books stand out for me. There's a grittiness to Unhinged that sucked me in, while the smooth writing and very likable lead characters kept me turning the pages.” ~D.M. Quincy, Bestselling Author

After reading this author's debut novel, "Runaway" I was really looking forward to her next book, "Unhinged". This fun, quick read did not disappoint--mystery, suspense, obsession, romance--this book has it all! Schroeder's characters are likable and real and I hope there will be more of their stories in the future. There were enough twists and turns in the plot to keep me engrossed and wondering what was going to happen next.
Note--I received an advanced reader copy for free in exchange for an honest review.

I was lucky enough to read an advance copy of Unhinged. What I love about Schroeder's stories is that they are both extremely suspenseful but have a social conscience. Unhinged is no exception. The heroine is a woman with a huge heart, who makes it a priority to help others but in doing so, unintentionally puts her and her family at risk. The hero is a strong, likable character. But the villain in this book will knock you on your @$$! I highly recommend UNHINGED for anyone who loves a story with a twist!

If you're looking for suspense and a plot full of twists and turns, then this book is for you! I was lucky enough to get a preview by way of an advance reader copy and let me tell you, J.B. does not disappoint!

Tori Radnor is a woman with a mission. After her ex husband ruins her finances, she's determined to rebuild her life on her own terms while doing some good in the world. Her UpStart business is all about second chances. Its mission: find employment for homeless clients. A chance encounter at an upscale grocery store puts her and her clients on the path to success and sparks an attraction with Aiden 'Midas' Miller, owner of the successful store chain. Not that she can act on the attraction. Rich people can't be trusted, as she learned from her cold-as-ice rich parents long ago and, more recently, in the aftermath of her failed marriage.

Aiden is hiding out in the Poconos to escape some serious stress. The last thing he needs is to fall for the beautiful and determined do-gooder businesswoman who reminds him a little too much of mommy dearest, a woman who put others before her son. Plus he's been the victim of a stalker and the experience has left him rattled. Still, he's drawn to Tori like no other - her independence, no-nonsense approach to life, and her genuine kindness disarms and enchants him. And, even better, she's willing to see past the rich boy facade and unlock the real man behind the Midas touch.

But their burgeoning romance and UpStart's success are threatened by a series of unfortunate events - hateful messages left on Tori's car, dead animals left in UpStart client's lockers, and worse. Is her ex to blame, or is the past catching up with Aiden Miller in a deadly game of obsession?

Mystery, suspense, romance - this story blends all three! Definitely recommend.

A few reviews that I love:

"Aptly named, Unhinged takes us down a dark and winding path of 'who done it,' except we're told who about halfway through. If you think that's going to kill the suspense, think again. Schroeder keeps us guessing when it comes to both the villain's motives and the sexy as sin relationship between Tori and Aiden. A recommended read." ~Books & Benches

I read a book later in the series, and it was so good I bought the first one-Unhinged. I am so glad I did. The book is suspenseful and has a love story. I so admired Tori. She was able to get away from her husband who lost all their money and ignored their child, Luke. She also had god awful snooty parents who treated her like trash. I wanted to tell them off. Tori was such a good person who wanted to help homeless people that had got down on their luck to find jobs. Aiden Miller owned a chain of grocery store with one in the Poconos. She happened to be shopping there when a young cashier tried to cheat her out of some of her change. The cashier called for Aiden who came and sided with Tori. Unfortunately the cashier was really cruel, but had kept that away from Aiden. Once the cashier was demoted, terrible things started happening to Tori, Luke and the two people Tori had working in the grocery store. The book got very suspenseful and even had some drugs thrown in the mix. I loved the story and strongly encourage you to read the book.

JB once again keeps readers “hooked” with intricately woven plot lines, immediate action and major obstacles the characters must overcome. Her delivery of the detailed backstories of the characters feels natural and authentic – I could identify with the challenges both Tori and Aiden faced and how those contributed to their present-day focus and commitments. JB weaves needed information into the story line as the action unfolds – it makes the reader feel a part of each unfolding scene and further deepens the readers understanding of the characters motivation. The romance and sexual tension keep you reading past “bedtime” with your fingers crossed. JB once again creates an exciting, fast-paced romantic suspense novel.

Unhinged was a thrill ride! Schroeder keeps her trademark realism from Runaway, bringing it to her new series with a gritty story told very smoothly.
The main characters are flawed, struggling, and still very likable. The pace started off with a good clip and only let you breathe a few times before hitting a fine note in a big ending (as you would expect from a book titled "Unhinged"!)
If you read Schroeder's debut book, you'll find a few visits from old friends and enjoy the check-in you get. Other than that, I'm working very hard not to give away spoilers!
Gritty suspense with a liberal dose of romance.
Highly recommended.

Captivating plot that had me escaping from obligations to find out what was in the next chapter! Relatable character development combined with sensory descriptions drew me into the storyline. When I don’t want to put down a book, relate to numerous characters and my senses are heightened from descriptions then it is a winner for me! Perfect title for an enjoyable, very well written book that left me thinking, wondering what would I do if “Unhinged”?

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of Unhinged since devouring JB Schroeder’s first novel, Runaway. Unhinged did not disappoint! Tori and Aiden are each compelling characters in their own right and when they come together their chemistry is super fun and super sexy. Loved it, sad I’m done reading it and can’t wait to see what JB does next.

Unhinged

I received this book free and this is my honest review. This book latches on to you and won't let go until the end. JR Schroeder did an excellent job of keeping the suspense alive. I couldn't wait to find out if Aiden and Tori stay together and if Haley, who is mentally disturbed, actually destroys the lives of Aiden and everyone he is close to. You won't be disappointed in reading this book. I highly recommend it.

Unhinged is a romantic suspense full of twists and turns. Tori is a newly single mother trying to start a business through which she will help clients who are homeless find jobs. When she meets Aidan Miller, the owner of a chain of grocery stores, she is successful at getting him to hire one of her clients. In the midst of arranging the placement sparks fly between them. Unfortunately, Aidan has a stalker and this will not be tolerated.
Favorite elements:
* Tori is independent, vulnerable but determined
* Tori's son - a great kid but still with typical teenage responses to situations
* Tori's clients - I was rooting for them!
* I ended up enjoying the fact that this wasn't a whodunit - as a reader, I knew very early into the book who was causing problems. The suspense came in the form of waiting to see when the characters would realize it and how it would be resolved.
Not as enjoyable:
The prologue was confusing. I understood that it was a way to clue the reader into the fact that someone with a very disturbed mind was going to be a major character but I found it to be distracting.
I received my book through the Goodreads Giveaways program in exchange for an honest review.

Couldn't put this book down for anything! Have found many authors whose works I enjoyed, and then there are authors whose works are simply pleasures and treasures to behold!

Ino my opinion, if you truly enjoy reading, then this is an author to have on your must read list, especially if you are a busy person and time is limited and you have to choose wisely!

You gotta love when the title of the book is an accurate depiction of the story cause someone was seriously unhinged in this book.

I loved this author's debut book and was looking forward to seeing what was next. This book kicks off a new series but has some loose ties with the other series via the characters.

Interesting thing – the leads weren't written in the typical damsel in distress saved by a big alpha man. Aiden Miller is a very rich and successful businessman but he also suffers from anxieties from a situation that lasted many years in his past. (I'm choosing not to go into detail about what that is so the reader can be surprised.) On the recommendation of his Dr he was sent to oversee one of his family's smaller grocery stores to help in alleviating some of his stress. Yeah that didnt work out to well as right away he finds himself attracted to very confident and brash woman, realizing the store is losing money and its turn over rate on employees is high and it gets even worse when the police inform him drugs are being sold out of his store and they want to set up a sting.

Tori Radnor is starting over in life with her teenage son. All she wants to do is to help the unemployed homeless get reestablished back into the work force. Tori came from money and even married money but after a disastrous marriage and losing everything and her snooty parents being ashamed of her homeless state she decides she is going to help others and that means starting from the bottom and working her way up on her own. She refuses to ever rely on another person again after being let down by both her parents and ex-husband. She too is instantly attracted to Aiden but after her past resists it as long as can.

We get the baddie's POV through out and its obvious from their thought process they are unhinged. The author did a good job of not letting the reader know who it was and even once we did there was still a huge shocking revelation you didn't see coming.. Those are always my favorites in suspense books...

Not as dark and intense in subject matter as Runaway but the story still engages your attention from beginning to end (and what an ending it was)..

Who writes the positive reviews, members.of authors families?

What a waste of time. Writing and storyline so amateurish that I almost felt embarrassed for the writer. Skimmed the last 70 pages just to see if there would be any redeeming qualities. There were none.
